Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1984, ice cream truck driver Michael Larson enters the game show Press Your Luck. While he struggles with trivia, he uses his memorization of the gameboard's patterns to win large sums of money. The production staff, led by Chuck and Bill Carruthers, becomes suspicious and discovers Larson's recordings of past episodes. They realize he knows the five patterns the board uses. Despite their attempts to break his concentration, they decide to let him win to promote the show. During a break, a call from his estranged wife, Patricia, causes Larson to have an emotional breakdown. However, Carruthers convinces him that he is becoming a star. Larson returns to the set and, in a final act of defiance, passes his last spin to another contestant, Ed. After a series of spins, Larson wins a total of $110,237 and earns the title of 'Luckiest Man in America.' The film includes a mid-credits scene featuring the real-life footage of the 1984 event.
