The story
After a career setback, Tim and Polly move their three children to a remote countryside property to start a tomato sauce business. The children, including the mute Fran, soon discover that their new home is near a magical woodland. When Fran encounters a fairy named Silky, she receives an invitation to the 'Magic Faraway Tree.' Despite her parents' warnings, she finds the tree and is transported to a magical realm above the clouds. When the parents eventually join her to help her, they are also whisked away into a world of extraordinary lands, where the family must navigate the wonders and perils of a realm that changes every day.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Tim and Polly move their children, Beth, Fran, and Joe, to a rural barn to start a tomato business. Fran, who is mute, meets a fairy named Silky and is invited to the 'Magic Faraway Tree.' She travels there and discovers a realm where new lands appear daily, such as the Land of Goodies. Later, her parents and siblings join her at the tree and visit the Land of Birthdays, where they make several wishes—including a selfish one by Beth that causes their tomato crop to fail. To save the business before a deadline from Polly's mother, the children travel through the Land of Know-It-Alls and the Land of Spells to find a reversal spell. They are captured by the villainous Dame Snap but manage to escape. They return just in time to restore the tomatoes, ensuring the family's success and the preservation of their home.
