The story
After a severe thunderstorm strikes the town of Bridgton, Maine, a mysterious and thick mist begins to advance over the land, concealing deadly, Lovecraftian creatures. A group of people, including a man named David Drayton, his wife, and their son, find themselves trapped inside a local supermarket as the mist envelops the building. As the situation escalates, the survivors must deal with the growing fear and paranoia while trying to survive the unknown threats lurking just outside the store's walls.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Following a thunderstorm in Bridgton, Maine, David Drayton, his wife Stephanie, and their son Billy are joined by others in a supermarket as a mysterious mist rolls in, hiding deadly creatures. Inside, a religious fanatic named Mrs. Carmody begins to preach that the mist is divine punishment, while others try to remain rational. Tensions peak when a soldier, Jessup, reveals the mist was caused by a failed military experiment. After a series of attacks from various creatures and the eventual death of Jessup, Ollie Weeks shoots and kills Carmody, breaking her hold over the group. David leads the survivors out of the store, only to find Stephanie's body and eventually run out of gas in the wasteland. In a final act of desperation, David uses his last bullets to mercy-kill the remaining group, including his son, just before the U.S. Army arrives to clear the area.
