The story
A group of young mutants, each possessing unique and dangerous abilities, are held in a secluded medical facility. Under the supervision of Dr. Cecilia Reyes, they are being trained to control their powers after each has caused a tragedy in their past. However, the teenagers soon discover that they are being treated as dangerous subjects. When a series of unsettling events occur within the facility, the group must find a way to escape and confront the reality of their situation while struggling to master their burgeoning abilities before they are used against them.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Danielle 'Dani' Moonstar, a Cheyenne Native American, is the sole survivor of a tornado and is taken to a hospital run by Dr. Cecilia Reyes. She is joined by four other teenagers with mutant DNA: Sam Guthrie, Illyana Rasputin, Roberto da Costa, and Rahne Sinclair. While they believe they are being trained to join the X-Men, they are actually being monitored by the Essex Corporation. During a neural test, Dani's powers—which manifest the fears of others as reality—go haywire, causing the 'Smiling Men' (Illyana's abusers) to appear. The group realizes Reyes is training them to be killers and must defeat her to break the facility's barrier. A massive entity called the Demon Bear, a manifestation of Dani's fears, emerges. Illyana travels to another dimension to retrieve the Soulsword to fight it, while Dani faces her inner fears. After defeating the Demon Bear, the group escapes the facility into the outside world.
