Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1956, Father Noiret is burned to death by the demon Valak in Tarascon, France. Years later, Sister Irene is dispatched to the same location to investigate a series of deaths linked to the demon. She travels with Sister Debra to a boarding school that was formerly a monastery. They learn that Valak seeks a powerful relic: the eyes of St. Lucy. At the school, a student named Sophie is bullied and locked in a chapel. Irene and Debra face off against a possessed Maurice. They use a light to reveal the location of the relic. Irene finds it, and the demon manifests as a physical creature. During a confrontation in a bell tower, Valak sets Irene ablaze, but she survives because she is a descendant of St. Lucy. Irene and Debra perform a ritual to banish the demon and free Maurice. The film ends with Irene watching Maurice, Sophie, and Kate together.
