A hot-tempered detective and a mild-mannered forensic accountant must team up to stop a multi-billion dollar embezzlement scheme.
The story
After mistakenly shooting Derek Jeter at the World Series, hot-tempered NYPD detective Terry Hoitz is partnered with mild-mannered forensic accountant Allen Gamble. Both are ridiculed by their peers, who idolize detectives Chris Danson and P. K. Highsmith, considered New York City's best cops despite the major collateral damage they cause catching petty criminals. When the high-profile duo falls to their deaths, the department looks for replacements. While the officers are forced to work together, Allen is primarily interested in investigating a scaffolding permit violation involving a British multi-billionaire, while Terry is forced to deal with the fallout of his reputation and the escalating danger of the case.

After mistakenly shooting Derek Jeter at the World Series, hot-tempered NYPD detective Terry Hoitz is partnered with mild-mannered forensic accountant Allen Gamble. They are ridiculed by their peers who idolize the reckless duo Chris Danson and P. K. Highsmith, who die during a chase. While Allen focuses on a scaffolding permit violation involving British billionaire Sir David Ershon, they are ambushed by mercenaries led by Roger Wesley. During the investigation, Allen reveals a secret 'Gator' persona he suppressed after a past life in a prostitution ring. After being sidelined by their captain, the pair realizes that Ershon has embezzled $32 billion from the NYPD pension fund. They eventually track him to a bank and successfully stop the transfer of funds to Lendl Global. The film ends with the arrest of the villains, a stock market crash, and the two detectives reconciling with their respective partners.
