A man seeking solitude in an abandoned train station finds himself unexpectedly entangled in the lives of his neighbors.
The story
Finbar McBride, a man with dwarfism who loves railroads, leads a solitary life and works in a model train hobby shop. After his mentor dies, he inherits a property featuring an abandoned train depot in New Jersey. Seeking a life of isolation, he moves into the building, only to find himself increasingly involved in the lives of his neighbors: a talkative snack truck operator, a struggling artist, and a young girl with a shared interest in trains. These interactions challenge his preference for solitude as he navigates the complexities of human connection in his new environment.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Finbar McBride, a man with dwarfism, moves into an abandoned train depot in New Jersey seeking solitude after his mentor, Henry, passes away. He soon encounters his neighbors: Joe, a talkative snack truck operator; Olivia, a struggling artist; and Emily, a pregnant librarian. While Joe's upbeat nature breaks Fin's reserve, Olivia's personal struggles and Emily's search for comfort lead to deeper connections. After a series of events, including a moment of shared intimacy with Emily and a period of isolation, Fin finds himself reconciling with Joe and finding the courage to share his passion for trains with children. The film concludes with the trio of Fin, Joe, and Olivia sharing a meal and reconciling their differences.
