The story
Italian-American brothers Mario and Luigi operate a struggling plumbing business in Brooklyn. After a significant water main leak is reported on the news, the pair enters a sewer to fix it but are suddenly sucked into a Warp Pipe and separated. Mario lands in the Mushroom Kingdom, while Luigi is transported to the Dark Lands. Mario must navigate this new world, meet Princess Peach, and find a way to reunite with his brother while facing the threat of the Koopa King, Bowser, who seeks to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and marry the Princess.

Mario and Luigi, struggling plumbers in Brooklyn, are separated after being sucked into a Warp Pipe. Mario arrives in the Mushroom Kingdom and meets Princess Peach and Toad. Peach plans to ally with the Kong family to defeat Bowser, who has imprisoned Luigi to force a marriage. Mario defeats Donkey Kong in the Jungle Kingdom using a Cat Suit. The group travels via go-karts to the Mushroom Kingdom, where they are ambushed on Rainbow Road. After a detour through the ocean, they reach the wedding where Peach uses an Ice Flower to freeze Bowser's forces. Mario uses a Tanooki Suit to rescue Luigi. A battle ensues, and a misplaced explosion sends Bowser and his army back to Brooklyn. In the human world, Mario and Luigi use a Super Star to defeat Bowser's forces. Peach shrinks Bowser and imprisons him in a jar, while the brothers are hailed as heroes in Brooklyn before moving to the Mushroom Kingdom to work together.
