A documentary crew filming a woman with Alzheimer's disease uncovers a sinister supernatural presence.
The story
Students Mia, Gavin, and Luis begin a project documenting Deborah Logan, an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease who lives with her daughter, Sarah. As the crew records her daily life, Deborah begins to exhibit bizarre behaviors. While her physician claims these actions are typical for her condition, cameraman Luis becomes concerned that something supernatural is at work. The situation escalates when the crew records Deborah speaking in French about sacrifices and snakes, and they discover a connection to a local physician who disappeared after a series of ritualized murders. The team must navigate the escalating danger as Deborah's behavior becomes increasingly extreme.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Students Mia, Gavin, and Luis document Deborah Logan, a woman with Alzheimer's. They discover she is being possessed by the spirit of Henri Desjardins, a man who performed cannibalistic ritual murders to seek immortality. Desjardins' spirit was previously contained by Deborah, who had hidden his body in her yard. When the spirit takes over, Deborah's behavior becomes violent and she attempts to abduct a young cancer patient, Cara Minetti. After a confrontation at a hospital and a search for the body, the group attempts to burn Desjardins' remains. During a final confrontation at an abandoned mine, Deborah is briefly freed from the possession after the body is burned. However, the final scene reveals that the ritual was completed; while Deborah is no longer possessed, the spirit of Desjardins has moved into the young girl, Cara, who is shown smiling sinisterly.
