The story
In 1625, a skilled young fencer named d'Artagnan travels to Paris with the ambition of joining the musketeers, the personal guard of King Louis XIII. While pursuing his goal, he encounters the three titular musketeers—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—and becomes involved in a series of duels and skirmishes. Simultaneously, the Cardinal's Guard, under the orders of Cardinal Richelieu, begins a campaign to disband the musketeers. D'Artagnan finds himself caught between the loyal musketeers and the clandestine maneuvers of the Cardinal's men as he attempts to navigate the dangers of the French court.

In 1625, d'Artagnan travels to Paris to become a musketeer. He encounters Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, and joins them in a skirmish against the Cardinal's Guard. After being captured, he learns that Cardinal Richelieu plans to overthrow King Louis XIII. D'Artagnan is rescued by the musketeers and they set out to intercept a secret treaty being delivered to England. During the journey, d'Artagnan is captured by Milady Sabine de Winter, a spy for Richelieu. He manages to convince her to keep him alive, and later, the musketeers confront her. Athos reveals she was his former wife. After she is sentenced to death, she reveals Richelieu's plot to assassinate the King. During a final confrontation, the musketeers and d'Artagnan defend the King against Richelieu's forces. D'Artagnan defeats Captain Rochefort, and the musketeers are ultimately reinstated by the King.
