The story
At the Coopers Chase retirement village, a group of elderly amateur sleuths known as the Thursday Murder Club meets weekly to discuss cold cases. The group, which includes a psychiatrist, a former trade union leader, and a mysterious woman, is joined by a new resident, a retired nurse. They begin investigating a case from 1973 involving the unsolved murder of Angela Hughes. When a local police officer is drawn into their investigation, the club's activities become more active. Meanwhile, tensions rise over the potential redevelopment of their home, and the sudden murder of a local man forces the club to take their investigation into serious action.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The Thursday Murder Club (TMC) investigates the murder of Tony Curran, whose death is linked to a local crime boss, Bobby Tanner. They discover that Tanner is involved in human trafficking and that Ron's son, Jason, was involved in the business. During a protest against the redevelopment of Coopers Chase, Ian Ventham dies of a fentanyl overdose. Investigation into a cold case from 1973 reveals that the victim, Angela Hughes, was murdered by Peter Mercer. It is revealed that Detective Inspector Penny Gray killed Mercer and hid his body, and her husband, John, killed Ian to protect her secret. In a separate subplot, a Polish handyman named Bogdan is revealed to have killed Tony under pressure to get his passport back. Ultimately, the TMC learns the truth about the 1973 murder and the subsequent cover-up. At the funeral of Penny and John, Elizabeth welcomes Joyce as a full member of the club. The story ends with the community of Coopers Chase continuing its life, with the club ready for the next mystery.
