The story
In Forks, Washington, on Bella Swan's eighteenth birthday, she awakens to a life complicated by her relationship with Edward Cullen, an immortal vampire. After a dangerous encounter leads Edward to believe her life is at risk, he abruptly ends their relationship and leaves town. Bella falls into a deep depression, finding solace in the company of her friend Jacob Black. As she struggles to cope with Edward's absence, she discovers that Jacob is part of a pack of werewolves. The situation becomes dire when a rogue vampire seeks revenge, forcing Bella to navigate the growing tensions between the vampire and werewolf communities while grappling with her feelings for both men.

Following Edward Cullen's departure to protect her from the dangers of his vampire world, Bella Swan falls into a deep depression in Forks, Washington. She finds support from Jacob Black, who reveals he is a werewolf. When a rogue vampire, Laurent, attacks Bella, she is saved by Jacob's pack, leading to the discovery of a tense treaty between the two species. Meanwhile, Edward travels to Italy to confront the Volturi, the vampire council, after fearing Bella is dead. He intends to expose himself to them to end his life. Bella and Alice Cullen arrive just in time to stop him. After a confrontation with the Volturi, Bella is offered the choice to become a vampire. She eventually chooses to be turned by Edward, provided they marry.
