The story

Portrayed through interviews and archival footage, the film relates the rise of Pablo Escobar in the 1980s as one of the most powerful drug kingpins of all-time, running a cartel that monopolized cocaine trade into the US and Europe. Escobar amassed enormous wealth, and came to be seen by many in Colombia as a kind of "Robin Hood", who actively engaged in philanthropy, building local football fields, schools, health clinics, and homes, particularly in the poor areas of his home city of Medellín. Through Escobar and others, drug money filtered into nearly every aspect of Colombian society.
