The story
In 1985, Robbie Hart is a wedding singer in Ridgefield, New Jersey, who is preparing to marry his fiancée, Linda. While performing at a reception hall, he befriends Julia Sullivan, a new waitress. Robbie agrees to perform at Julia's upcoming wedding, though her fiancé, a businessman named Glenn Gulia, has not yet set a date. However, on the day of Robbie's own wedding, he is left at the altar by Linda. Devastated and struggling with his identity as a wedding singer, Robbie's path begins to intertwine with Julia's as they navigate their respective complications and growing feelings for one another.

In 1985, Robbie Hart works as a wedding singer in Ridgefield, New Jersey. He is preparing to marry his fiancée, Linda, but she leaves him at the altar on their wedding day, claiming she wanted him to be a rock star. Robbie falls into a depression until he meets Julia Sullivan, a waitress who also works at the reception hall. They become close friends while Julia deals with her own complicated relationship with her wealthy fiancé, Glenn Gulia. As they grow closer, they realize they have feelings for each other, but are hindered by their circumstances and Robbie's insecurity. After a series of misunderstandings and a confrontation with the dishonest Glenn, Robbie realizes his love for Julia. He boards a flight to Las Vegas to stop her from eloping with Glenn. On the plane, he performs a song over the intercom, leading to a confession of love. Robbie and Julia eventually marry, while Robbie's former fiancée, Linda, is left behind.
