Full plot (contains spoilers)
Anna Fox, a child psychologist with agoraphobia, lives in a Manhattan brownstone and observes her neighbors, the Russells. After a neighbor's wife, Jane, is seemingly killed in a crime, Anna witnesses the event but is dismissed by police. She begins spying on the Russells, only to discover that her perception of reality is clouded by medication and trauma from a past car accident that killed her husband and daughter. She eventually learns that the first 'Jane' she met was actually Katie Melli, who was stalking the Russells. Anna discovers that the son, Ethan, is a serial killer who murdered Katie. After a confrontation where Ethan reveals his crimes and attempts to kill her, Anna fights him and pushes him through a skylight to his death. In the aftermath, she is hospitalized and eventually finds peace, moving out of her home and overcoming her fear of the outside world.
