The story

The story focuses on the Grimm brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob. As the film opens, we learn they are working to finish a family history for a local Duke, though Wilhelm is more interested in collecting fairy tales and often spends what little food money they earn to hear them from locals; we see a canny flower seller tempting Wilhelm successfully into buying a bouquet by telling him the tale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses (though in the film, it is changed to only one princess, and the fairy ball is changed to a camp of Romani dancing instead). Jacob is incensed by this, scolding his brother for wasting their bread money.
