Thor must escape the alien planet Sakaar in time to save Asgard from Hela and the impending Ragnarök.
The story
Two years after the Battle of Sokovia, Thor is imprisoned by the fire demon Surtur, who reveals that his father Odin is no longer on Asgard. Surtur warns that Asgard will be destroyed during the prophesied apocalypse Ragnarök. After freeing himself and defeating Surtur, Thor returns to Asgard only to find his brother Loki posing as Odin. He forces Loki to help him find their father. Meanwhile, a threat looms as Hela, a long-hidden sibling, is about to be released from her prison, posing a grave danger to the realm of Asgard.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After defeating Surtur and taking his crown, Thor finds Loki posing as Odin on Asgard. With help from Doctor Strange, they locate Odin in Norway, who reveals that his death will release his bloodthirsty firstborn daughter, Hela. Upon Odin's death, Hela is freed, destroys Thor's hammer Mjolnir, and begins a conquest of the Nine Realms. Thor and Loki are knocked into space and land on the garbage planet Sakaar. There, Thor is forced into gladiatorial combat against the Hulk, while Loki aligns himself with the Grandmaster. They eventually team up with a Valkyrie named 142 and a group of rebels to escape Sakaar. They return to Asgard just as Hela's forces attack. In a final confrontation, Thor realizes that only the destruction of Asgard via Ragnarök can stop Hela. He triggers the apocalypse, which destroys Asgard and kills Hela. Thor, now king, reconciles with Loki and prepares to take his people to Earth.
