The story
After a forensic accountant and his son flee a targeted hit in Florida, they seek refuge in the Montana wilderness. They are intercepted by a pair of assassins and forced into a remote area. There, they encounter Hannah Faber, a smokejumper struggling with the trauma of a recent forest fire. When the boy is separated from his father and left in Hannah's care, she must protect him from the relentless assassins while navigating a rapidly approaching forest fire and the harsh terrain of Park County.

Owen Casserly, a forensic accountant, flees Florida with his son, Connor, after realizing they are targets of a hit. They are ambushed by assassins Jack and Patrick in Montana. Owen is killed, and Connor is taken in by Hannah Faber, a smokejumper. As the assassins use a forest fire as a diversion to hunt Connor, they encounter Ethan, a deputy sheriff. Ethan is eventually forced to lead them through the woods while trying to protect his pregnant wife, Allison. A tense standoff occurs at Hannah's fire tower where Ethan is injured but Hannah and Connor escape. Allison eventually confronts and kills Jack. In the final confrontation, Hannah faces Patrick and manages to defeat him as the forest fire closes in. Ethan dies from his wounds, while Hannah and Connor survive the fire. In the aftermath, Connor prepares to release his father's evidence to the media.
