A divorced couple travels to Bali to secretly sabotage their daughter's wedding to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did.
The story
David and Georgia Cotton are a divorced couple who regret their marriage, which ended 20 years earlier. When their daughter Lily graduates from college and travels to Bali, she meets a local seaweed farmer named Gede. Lily informs her parents that she intends to marry Gede and stay in Bali permanently, abandoning her legal career. Fearing she is rushing into the same mistakes they made, David and Georgia form a truce to convince her otherwise. They publicly offer their blessing but secretly devise a 'Trojan horse' strategy to sabotage the wedding from within.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
David and Georgia Cotton, a divorced couple who harbor mutual resentment, travel to Bali to intervene in their daughter Lily's life. Lily, who recently graduated from law school, met a Balinese seaweed farmer named Gede while snorkeling and decided to marry him, choosing to stay in Bali and forgo her legal career. David and Georgia, fearing Lily is repeating their own marital mistakes, agree to a 'Trojan horse' scheme: they publicly bless the union while secretly attempting to sabotage it. Their plan includes stealing the couple's blessed wedding rings. During the process, David and Georgia begin to mend their own relationship and spend time with Gede's large extended family. Meanwhile, Georgia's boyfriend, Paul, arrives in Bali and attempts to propose to her. The sabotage plan falters when Lily discovers the rings in Georgia's bag and confronts her parents. After a night of reflection, David and Georgia realize they cannot lose Lily and offer their sincere support. At the wedding, Gede asks for their genuine blessing; David gives a speech acknowledging that despite their own failed marriage, they are happier because they have Lily. Georgia ends her relationship with Paul, and the family says a tearful goodbye as Lily and Gede marry. The film ends with David and Georgia jumping into the ocean together.
