A teenage girl travels back in time to 2003 to save her older sister from a masked serial killer.
The story
In the small town of Sweetly, Minnesota, high school senior Summer Field is murdered by a serial killer known as the Sweetly Slasher. Twenty-one years later, her younger sister Lucy, an amateur inventor, discovers a time machine in a nearby barn. She accidentally travels back to 2003, just two days before Summer's murder. Lucy enlists the help of a local student named Quinn to refuel the machine. She attempts to navigate the past, meeting her parents and her sister, while trying to prevent the tragic events that defined her town's history.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 2003, Summer Field is murdered by the 'Sweetly Slasher' in Sweetly, Minnesota. Twenty-one years later, her sister Lucy finds a time machine and travels back to 2003. She meets Quinn, a student she knows from her own time, and enlists his help to refuel the machine. Lucy meets her parents in the past and discovers Summer is a lesbian in a relationship with Emmy. While Lucy and Quinn work to save Emmy from the Slasher, Lucy's interference accidentally causes the death of a security guard who was supposed to survive. Summer eventually joins them to save Emmy. At the dance, Summer publicly confesses her love for Emmy. The Slasher attacks Summer in a barn, but Lucy and Quinn save her. The Slasher is revealed to be a future Quinn from an alternate timeline who was driven insane by rejection and traveled back to seek revenge. Lucy transports herself and the future Quinn back to 2024, where she kills him. Realizing she no longer exists in this new timeline, Lucy chooses to stay in 2003 to live her life with Summer and Quinn.
