The story

Teenagers Nicky Marotta and Pamela Pearl meet in the New York Neurological Hospital for "behavioral evaluation." Depressed and insecure, Pamela is neglected and exploited by her wealthy father David, a prominent commissioner running a campaign to "clean up" Times Square. On the other hand, brash Nicky is a tough-talking street kid with musical aspirations, sent for evaluation as her social worker Rosie's last-ditch attempt to keep her out of juvie after an altercation. After being released, Nicky slips away from Rosie and breaks Pamela out of the hospital.
