Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1964, Frank Walker is gifted a 'T' pin by Athena, which transports him to the futuristic city of Tomorrowland. In the present, Casey Newton finds a similar pin and is transported there as a projection. Athena, an animatronic, takes Casey to the now-adult Frank, a recluse who has built a device predicting the world's end. They travel to Paris and launch a rocket to reach Tomorrowland, where they find the city in decline. They encounter Governor David Nix, who uses a tachyon machine to broadcast visions of catastrophe. Casey realizes the warnings have become a self-fulfilling prophecy. During a confrontation to destroy the machine, Athena sacrifices herself to save Frank, and Nix is killed. In the aftermath, Casey and Frank take leadership of Tomorrowland, building a new generation of animatronics to find new dreamers across the world.
