Full plot (contains spoilers)

Maxime Édouard François-Marie de Labardière and Gérard Ravanelli are two members of parliament sentenced to five years in prison for influence peddling. They are accompanied by Pierre-Jean Guisard, a dishonest doctor, as they await transfer to Melun Prison. Sandrine Athan, an upright young police officer with a strong character, is there to escort the men through a France brought to a standstill by a general strike. Despite their similar sentences and extensive media coverage, the three men are completely different: one belongs to a noble family whose lineage dates back to the time of the Knights Templar, and whose party benefited from secret funding; another comes from a more working-class background and is closer to the stereotype of the average Frenchman, having been convicted of personal enrichment; as for the third, who embezzled money from a charity, he has little time to dwell on his past: he is shot dead by two hit men, who have been ordered by the President of the Republic to eliminate Labardière. The transfer therefore turns into a chase with formidable hit men, who turn out to be agents of the National Gendarmerie, as they pursue the three companions and a CD of Gregorian chants containing the accounts of the majority party.
