Full plot (contains spoilers)

The greatest dream of 12-year-old Ranji Ram in Mumbai is to appear in a Bollywood film, just like his great idol, Amir Roshan. When Roshan announces a casting call, the dream seems within reach, but it falls through because Ranji is moving to Germany with his parents. His grandfather Daada, who stays in Mumbai, gives him his mobile phone as a farewell gift so they can at least Skype whenever they want. In Berlin, Ranji is bullied by his classmates and feels miserable. Even so, he makes a good video for the casting call, but loses it when a gang of delinquent classmates steals his phone. His attempts to find a girl as a dance partner for a new video—or at least a boy dressed as a girl—catch the attention of his classmate and neighbor Toni. At first, she sides with the bullies, but changes her mind when Ranji confides his plan to her. He even forgives her when she admits that she was the one who sold his phone. She needs money for a trip to Rome, which she hopes will help her bring her estranged mother back into the family. Toni makes a third audition video with Ranji, and they eventually submit it, despite Ranji’s father trying to interrupt the upload. A sober, pragmatic man, he wants to force Ranji to stop dreaming and face reality. The casting video earns them an invitation to Mumbai to shoot a video. With the help of their India-enthusiast neighbor Patrizia, who believes she recognizes Ranji’s grandfather as a descendant of her favorite guru, they fly to Mumbai and reach the studio at the last minute despite a few problems. Amir Roshan is impressed by Ranji’s live performance and gives him a role in his next dance film. Ranji’s father, who has followed them to Mumbai, realizes that his son was on the right track and now supports him. On the flight back to Germany, they take the grandfather with them. The title is based on something Toni says to encourage Ranji to take the final steps: the closer you get to a dream, the more threatening it looks, but as a hunter, you must not let it intimidate you.
