Full plot (contains spoilers)
The honest public works contractor Eugène Laporte falls victim to rivals who have him arrested for high treason. The only way out of his predicament is for him, a bachelor, to officially acknowledge three children. Thanks to them, he will preserve three-quarters of his wealth. His friend Fernand finds him three fine specimens: two boys, Georges and Roger, and a girl, Zoé. As soon as the acknowledgment is signed, Eugène is released. His innocence is proven, but his offspring are there, very much in the way and accompanied by overbearing mothers. Eugène’s fiancée, Élisabeth, rebels, and matters get worse, so Laporte, followed this time by Fernand, ends up in prison—but not for long.
