A ragtag group must unite to stop an ancient giant troll awakened in the mountains of Norway.

The story

After a drilling operation in the mountains of Dovre Municipality causes a mysterious eruption and multiple deaths, the Norwegian government recruits a diverse team of experts to investigate. Among them is Nora Tidemann, a paleontologist who suspects the cause is not a gas leak but something far more ancient. When a second incident occurs near Lesja, the team seeks help from Nora's father, a man whose beliefs in mythical creatures have cost him his career. Together, they venture into the mountains, only to accidentally awaken a massive, slumbering troll that has been hidden in plain sight, beginning a desperate race to contain the creature before it reaches the capital of Oslo.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Nora Tidemann, a paleontologist, joins a government task force to investigate a series of mysterious explosions in the Dovre mountains. Alongside her father Tobias—who has been ridiculed for his belief in trolls—and a military officer, she discovers that a massive troll has been awakened by drilling. The creature begins a rampage toward Oslo. While the military's conventional weapons fail and a planned sonic attack only enrages the beast, the group learns from the Royal Palace that trolls were once a known part of Norwegian history until they were suppressed by the church. The government prepares a nuclear strike on the capital to stop the beast. Nora and her allies discover the creature is vulnerable to UV light. They lure the troll into a trap using tanning beds and a baby troll's skull. In a final moment of hesitation, Nora turns off the lights to save the creature, but the sun rises, killing the troll. The film ends with a mid-credits scene showing something emerging from the rubble in the mountains.
