His attempts to maintain this borrowed identity and romance lead him into a growing web of lies.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Gianni is a Roman taxi driver with an established but boring routine. He has a wife, Lorella (nicknamed Lorè), and two children, and dreams of winning the lottery to change his dull, monotonous daily life, since he is incapable of changing the course of his life. He also tries to win a cruise on the Red Sea by entering a dance contest with his friend Erminia, an overweight woman with cholesterol problems. But when a wealthy couple, leaving for a week in the Maldives, forgets the keys to their magnificent Arabian Nights-style villa in his taxi, Gianni takes a chance: he uses the keys to get into the villa so he can sample the rich life for a week, complete with a swimming pool, elegant tuxedos, and luxury supercars. One evening he finds an invitation to a party in the villa and decides to use it to go; there he meets a beautiful woman named Lola, instantly falls for her, and dances with her all night. He even manages to get an invitation from fashion designer Manuel Del Grande to another party, scheduled for the following evening. Gianni eventually cheats on his wife and spends the night with Lola in the villa, pretending it belongs to him. Later, at Manuel's party, he and Lola win €2,000 at roulette. That evening, he tells Lola he has fallen in love with her and would be ready to leave everything behind and start his life over for her. But Lola bitterly reveals that she is a prostitute and pockets the €2,000 they have just won as payment, breaking Gianni's heart. Gianni then tries to return to his old life, even missing the chance to win the dance contest when Erminia fractures her leg. But one morning Lola calls him in tears, asking him to meet her at the villa. There she asks for his help with her visiting father: Lola explains that her father knows nothing about her work and that she has told him she is about to marry “a wonderful man named Ernesto.” Gianni therefore has to pretend to be Ernesto and host Lola's father, Alfredo, at the house. The situation becomes complicated when he has to keep lying to Lorè so she won't discover Lola and the villa, and gets even worse when Alfredo decides to stay for another week, just days before the villa's real owners return. Gianni can't tell the truth to either him or Lola. But in the end, he manages to win the dance contest with Lola and gives Alfredo the cruise prize to solve the problem. That same evening, he and Lola grow close again and sleep together once more. The next morning, however, when Gianni returns home, he has a huge argument with his wife after she finds out—from acquaintances of theirs who were at the contest, saw Gianni with Lola, and had also spoken to Alfredo—that her husband won the cruise with another woman. Lola, too, discovers the truth when she finds a photo of the house's owners and Gianni's ID, and decides to say goodbye to him again. At the end of the week, the couple returns to their home, and Gianni's relationships with both Lorè and Lola are in ruins. But eventually he manages to pull off the same “trick” with Lola after driving another couple to the airport; they will be spending two weeks in Barbados, and he manages to get their keys too. Meanwhile, Lorè goes tandem skydiving with a younger man, having realized the pleasures of life she had to give up because of marriage.
