A man's desperate lie to get close to a grieving twin leads to a complicated and unsettling friendship.
The story
Dennis, a young gay man in Portland, Oregon, meets a man named Rocky at a diner. After a brief and intense connection, Rocky becomes distant, leading Dennis to confront him in the street where Rocky is tragically struck by a car. Following the tragedy, Dennis finds himself in a support group for twinless twins, where he meets Roman, Rocky's twin. To bridge the gap and stay close to Roman, Dennis fabricates a story about having lost his own twin. The two become close friends, but Dennis's web of lies begins to unravel as his behavior becomes increasingly erratic and his secrets are questioned by those around them.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After Rocky's death, Dennis joins a support group for twinless twins to be near Roman. He lies about having a twin to maintain their friendship. As they grow closer, Dennis introduces Roman to his colleague Marcie, and the two begin a relationship. Marcie eventually notices inconsistencies in Dennis's claims and demands he tell the truth. While sharing a hotel room, a drunk Dennis offers Roman a foot massage; during this, he experiences a moment of lust for Rocky and begins sucking Roman's toes. When Roman rejects his advances, Dennis confesses his deception. An angry Roman punches him and they become socially isolated. Later, they meet at a diner and, in a moment of shared history, both ask a waitress for a to-go box simultaneously, a habit they once shared with Rocky.
