After a night away for work, a married lawyer faces the aftermath of a traumatic assault.

The story

Vincent Sorrente is a respected business lawyer, a husband and father of two, and an amateur rugby player. When work takes him to a town far from home, he spends the night at a hotel. At the bar, he shares a few beers with another guest, Stan, who later helps him to his room when he feels unwell. The next morning, Vincent realizes that he has been raped. He goes to his hearing but leaves before it ends, then returns home changed and increasingly withdrawn, behaving aggressively toward his wife and son without telling them why.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Vincent Sorrente is a well-regarded business lawyer, married with two children, and an amateur rugby player. He has to attend a hearing in a town far from home and spend the previous night at a hotel. That evening, at the hotel bar, he has a few beers with another guest named Stan. When it is time to go to bed, Vincent feels very unwell, and Stan helps him up to his room and onto his bed. When he wakes the next morning, Vincent realizes that he has been raped. He goes to the hearing but leaves before it ends without explanation. Images from the previous night come back to him. Back home, he acts aggressively toward his wife and son but gives no explanation. At the law firm where he works, he offers no explanation for his behavior at the hearing. He leaves his rugby teammates when they joke about the scratches on his back. He withdraws from his family. However, after some time, he confesses the truth to his wife but refuses to follow her advice: to file a complaint, see a psychologist, and not stay alone. He does so, however, a month after the incident.
