An irresponsible bachelor must step up and care for his siblings' children during a family emergency.

The story

When Bob and Cindy Russell must travel to Indianapolis on short notice due to a family emergency, they leave their three children—rebellious teenager Tia, talkative Miles, and young Maizy—in the care of Bob's irresponsible brother, Buck. Buck is an unemployed bachelor who prefers a carefree lifestyle of drinking and smoking. Despite his lack of experience and the children's initial resistance, Buck quickly bonds with the younger siblings through his unconventional approach to caregiving. Meanwhile, he must navigate his own complicated relationship with his girlfriend, Chanice, while attempting to manage the household and the various challenges of suburban life with three children.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After Bob and Cindy leave their three children in the care of Buck, the irresponsible bachelor finds himself navigating the demands of parenting. While he bonds with young Miles and Maizy, he faces hostility from the teenage Tia. As Buck settles into suburban life, he takes the children to various activities, including a bowling outing and a birthday party for Miles. He also becomes suspicious of Tia's boyfriend, Bug. Tensions peak when a misunderstanding leads to Buck's girlfriend, Chanice, believing he is having an affair with a neighbor, causing her to end their relationship. When Tia sneaks out, Buck must choose between a high-stakes horse race and finding her. He chooses the latter, eventually finding her and rescuing her from a situation involving Bug. After a reconciliation between Buck and Tia, and a realization of his growth, Buck and Chanice reconcile. The film ends with the family reunited and Buck moving on to a steady job, while the children's relationships with their parents are improved.
