Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film begins by showing the winding paved road that climbs past rustic houses and vineyards toward the school. The school consists of 16 buildings situated on two wooded hills. More than 130 students attended the school, having been specially selected for this prestigious institution. Reports of sexual abuse at the school first surfaced in the spring of 2010; the most frequent cases of abuse took place between 1965 and 1985. During this period, the school’s headmaster, as well as some teachers, sexually abused children aged between 12 and 15. It is presumed that at least 132 children at the boarding school were sexually abused. The magazine Der Spiegel, which reported on these matters, announces that the television station WDR has also begun shooting a film on the subject, with Julia Jentsch and Ulrich Tukur in the leading roles. The film then shows a miniature railway, little houses decorated with geraniums, and the laundry with other administrative outbuildings. Pistorius, an unqualified educator who is very popular with the children, is shown in bed playing obscene games with some naked children. The documentary also depicts drug use, alongside the school’s decadence, as well as the discrepancy between myth and reality.
