The story
In 2012, European Commissioner for Health John Dalli is forced to resign under suspicious circumstances. MEP José Bové launches a counter-investigation, aided by his parliamentary assistant and a young intern. The inquiry is fraught with obstacles, but Bové persists in trying to clear the commissioner’s name—even though he opposes Dalli’s views. The case becomes a matter of principle for Bové: defending respect for rules, the law, and democracy while seeking to understand the circumstances behind the resignation.

In 2012, European Commissioner for Health John Dalli is forced to resign under suspicious circumstances. MEP José Bové, aided by his parliamentary assistant and his young intern, conducts a counter-investigation fraught with obstacles, which leads him to uncover a conspiracy by the giant tobacco companies’ lobbyists at the highest levels of the European institutions. For José Bové, this investigation to clear the name of a commissioner whose views he opposes is a “matter of principle”: a matter of respect for the rules, the law, and democracy.
