A man tells a young runaway the wild, fictionalized history of how Pop-Tarts were created.

The story

In 1968, a young runaway orders Pop-Tarts in a diner, where a man named Bob Cabana offers to tell him the true origin story of the American breakfast food. The narrative shifts to 1963, where Bob serves as the head of development at the Kellogg's corporation in Battle Creek, Michigan. After discovering a rival company, Post, is developing a similar fruit-based pastry, Bob leads his team to create their own version. The film follows the high-stakes corporate battle, involving secret deals for sugar, a confrontation with a powerful dairy syndicate, and a desperate struggle to market their new product before it is overshadowed by the competition.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 1968, a man named Bob Cabana tells a runaway the 'true' origin of Pop-Tarts. The story flashes back to 1963 at Kellogg's headquarters in Michigan. Bob discovers that their rival, Post, is developing a fruit-based pastry. To compete, Bob hires a former colleague, Stan, and they develop a toasted, foil-packaged snack. The plot escalates into a surreal corporate war involving a deal with a criminal for sugared rights, a confrontation with a ruthless dairy syndicate that threatens Bob, and a political intervention by President John F. Kennedy. Meanwhile, a mascot named Thurl Ravenscroft leads a strike of cereal mascots against the new pastry. After a series of mishaps, including a misread by Walter Cronkite, the product is named 'Pop-Tart'. The film concludes with a twist: Bob admits the story was mostly made up, except for a sentient ravioli creature that appears in the present day.
