The story
Mikko Virtanen is a Finnish man who admires Sweden but feels trapped in his Finnish body. He rejects what he associates with Finnishness, including silent sulking, heavy drinking, and a tendency to fight, and wants to adopt what he sees as the best aspects of Swedishness. While on a ferry to Sweden, he meets Mikael, a Swedish psychologist who is fed up with the neat moderation of Swedish life. Recognizing that each wants an escape from his own national identity, the two men come up with a plan to switch identities.
