A mountain rescue team races through a snowstorm to find stranded holidaymakers as one rescuer confronts the memory of a past avalanche.
The story
A snowstorm sweeps over the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains, prompting the mountain rescue service to ban anyone from going out. Several holidaymakers are already on the mountain, including seven people who had set out for a carnival. The rescue team departs from Špindlerův Mlýn to search for them, joined by Jarda Materna, whose earlier experience with an avalanche still troubles him. Despite his fear, his sense of responsibility draws him into the search. The mission is meant to be his final shift before he and his wife move to Liberec.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
A snowstorm breaks out on the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains. The mountain rescue service imposes a ban on going out, but several holidaymakers are still out in the mountains, including a group of seven who had originally been heading to a carnival. The entire mountain rescue team sets out from Špindlerův Mlýn to search for them, joined by Jarda Materna (Josef Mixa), who has had a frightening experience with an avalanche in the past. Memories of it still haunt him, but his sense of responsibility wins out. He manages to rescue the missing Tonda Košař (Ivo Palec), whom he is searching for together with Tonda’s girlfriend (Zuzana Fišárková). The mountain rescue service also finds a group of young people who have taken shelter in an old military bunker. The rescue mission was supposed to be Materna’s last shift before he and his wife (Michaela Bendová) moved to Liberec. In the end, however, the couple decide to stay in Špindlerův Mlýn.
