Full plot (contains spoilers)
David Aames Jr., a wealthy publisher, is currently in a legal and medical limbo following a car accident caused by his lover, Julie, who died and disfigured him. While being interviewed by psychologist Dr. Curtis McCabe, David recounts his life as a playboy and his subsequent fall into depression. After a period of recovery where he begins a relationship with Sofia, David experiences surreal events, including a man at a bar who claims he is omnipotent. Eventually, David finds himself in a reality where his face is restored but his surroundings are distorted. He is eventually taken to 'Life Extension,' where he learns he is in cryonic suspension and his life for the past 150 years has been a lucid dream. He discovers that he chose this dream to escape the trauma of his disfigurement and the loss of Sofia. Upon reaching a rooftop with a 'Tech Support' figure, he is offered a choice: remain in the dream or wake up to reality. David chooses to wake up, jumping from the building to end the dream and face his true fate.
