The story
After returning from another universe, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote find themselves in a bar in Mexico, still on the run following their battle with Carnage. When the apparent murder of Patrick Mulligan makes headlines, Eddie is branded a prime suspect. He decides to travel to New York City to clear his name, unaware that he has left a piece of Venom behind. Meanwhile, a mysterious creature known as a Xenophage begins tracking them. As they travel toward New York, they are pursued by the Xenophage and a government operation known as Imperium, which seeks to capture and study symbiotes that have fallen to Earth.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a battle with Carnage, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote are in Mexico when a murder investigation labels Eddie a suspect. They travel toward New York City, but are intercepted by a Xenophage—a creature sent by the creator Knull to retrieve a 'Codex' that would free him from prison. The Codex is currently held by both Eddie and Venom. During their journey, they are also hunted by Rex Strickland's 'Imperium' unit. After being separated and captured at Area 51, a series of events leads to the release of other symbiotes. In a final confrontation, Venom realizes he must sacrifice himself to destroy the Codex and save the universe, merging with the Xenophages to destroy them. Eddie is eventually cleared of charges and visits the Statue of Liberty to honor Venom. The film ends with a mid-credits scene showing Knull's triumph and a post-credits scene showing a piece of the Venom symbiote still active in the remains of Area 51.
