Verrückt und zugenäht (1962)

Things are exceptionally cheerful in Prison Director Gernewein’s prison. The understanding warden is extremely popular with the crooks, who call their home “Sonnenburg.” But now the director is due to be promoted to government councillor—when an unforeseen mishap occurs: several inmates have been released early using forged documents, suddenly putting Gernewein’s promotion in jeopardy, since an inspection is now looming. Prison guard Adolf Meyer then asks the five escapees to return of their own free will. Out in their newly won freedom, another odd bird is already waiting: Kralle Kaktus, a habitual criminal. He tries to persuade the escapees to join him in a burglary. But before they can disappoint their director, the escapees return through a hole that was thoughtfully made in advance to their cozy cells, which have become dear to them.
