Viel Spaß mit meiner Frau (1997)

The film begins with a pivotal wine tasting that turns the lives of two men, Apel and Fiebelkorn (played by Jörg Gudzuhn and Jörg Schüttauf), upside down. Apel, a bon vivant and gourmet with a tendency to do nothing, is due to attend an important interview for a managerial position, but has no desire to go. Just then, wine salesman Fiebelkorn appears at his door. During the tasting, Apel drinks too much and remains lying there dead drunk, much to the dismay of his wife, who had hoped the new job would improve their social standing. Fiebelkorn, who had originally intended only to explain Apel’s absence from the interview, is mistaken for Apel and gets the job. This unexpected role reversal leads to a series of comic and often embarrassing situations. Fiebelkorn now has to take on not only Apel’s professional role, but also contend with the expectations and skepticism of his own suspicious wife, Regina. He can hardly explain to her that he was hired under a false name. As the film progresses, new relationships and even romantic entanglements develop. The initial role reversal leads to further mix-ups and misunderstandings, bringing the characters into increasingly absurd situations. These complications eventually prompt those involved to reassess their relationships and life goals. The film ends with a humorous resolution to the complicated situations, as the characters learn from their experiences and embark on new paths in life. There are not only career changes, but also new pairings that emerge from the turbulent events.
