During the Black Death in Florence, a group of young people seek refuge and engage in a series of lusty adventures and romantic entanglements.
The story
Set in Florence during the Black Death, ten young Florentines take refuge from the plague. Rather than sharing stories, they engage in lusty adventures, bawdy exchanges, and romance. Pampinea, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, finds her fortune stolen by the local thug Gerbino De Ratta, who demands she marry him. Meanwhile, a talented gambler named Lorenzo hides in a convent by posing as a 'deaf and dumb' gardener. When Pampinea seeks shelter at the same convent to escape Gerbino, she discovers Lorenzo and becomes jealous, leading to a series of comedic and romantic complications as their fates intertwine.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Set in Florence during the Black Death, ten young Florentines take refuge from the plague, engaging in lusty adventures and romance. Pampinea, a merchant's daughter, is robbed of her fortune by the thug Gerbino De Ratta, who forces her to marry him. Lorenzo, a gambler, hides in a convent posing as a 'deaf and dumb' gardener, where he sleeps with the nuns. When Pampinea arrives at the convent to escape Gerbino, she catches Lorenzo in the act and, out of jealousy, reveals his deception to the abbess. Meanwhile, Pampinea's fiancé, Count Dzerzhinsky, arrives in Florence and is ambushed by Gerbino's men. He survives and meets Elissa, Pampinea's best friend, who is skinny dipping; he mistakes her for Pampinea and they fall in love. Lorenzo follows Pampinea to her father's mansion and confesses his love for a mysterious nun. Gerbino imprisons Lorenzo, and Pampinea agrees to marry Gerbino to free him. Lorenzo is banished to the woods, where he meets Dzerzhinsky. The two team up to fight Gerbino's men, and Gerbino eventually falls into a deep well and dies. Pampinea refuses to marry the Count, only to realize he is in love with Elissa. She runs back to Lorenzo, who realizes she is the nun he loved, and they marry with their friends in attendance.
