Full plot (contains spoilers)
A research vessel carrying language expert Anahit Sarian discovers a sunken Crusader ship off the Turkish Mediterranean coast. The ship sank in 1369 while traveling from Cyprus to Armenia. A five-sided stone object about three meters in diameter is recovered. Judging by the positions of the crew’s bodies, it is assumed that the plague, which was raging across Europe at the time, had swept through the ship. At night, a special task force belonging to a secret order boards the research vessel, destroys the stone object’s casing, takes its contents, and locks the crew in the hold with the plague pathogen. Anahit manages to escape. Robert Kästner, who has dropped out of university twice and has a record as a petty criminal, travels to Italy at the request of his uncle, Professor Sörensen, an Ark researcher, to visit a colleague. He does not find the colleague at home, but discovers an ancient Armenian text and a medieval depiction of Mary by a painter named Visus. Kästner finds the dead researcher in the refrigerator and has to flee from the police. Kästner and Anahit, Sörensen’s assistant, meet in Yerevan, Armenia, where they receive help from a taxi driver named Hayk. They decipher the texts Kästner found, which point to the Eye of God, said to have been carried aboard Noah’s Ark. Bringing the two parts of the Eye together would recreate Creation. This is also the secret order’s goal: to return the world, now corrupted, to its original state. Meanwhile, a German couple on holiday discovers the stricken research vessel during a boat trip and finds its crew dead. The young couple also contract the plague. The Turkish police set up a quarantine, but both die. Anahit, who wants to return to the research vessel, is also arrested and examined, but she is healthy. Together with the virologist on site, she goes to the research vessel and reconstructs the remains of the stone block. A squad from the secret order blows up the ship. The virologist dies, but Anahit escapes. However, she is now infected with the plague as well. Kästner goes to the secret order’s headquarters, where he meets his uncle, Professor Sörensen. They are both imprisoned, but manage to escape through a secret tunnel. Meanwhile, the Eye of God has been brought from the seabed to Armenia. Kästner, Anahit, and Hayk meet again in Armenia. They discover that a Soviet beverage factory has been built over the monastery. They arrive at the monastery at the same time as the members of the order, and Anahit is shot and critically wounded. The order’s followers have lowered their Eye on ropes into the monastery’s underground cathedral, where the other Eye of God is also located. A reaction takes place between the two Eyes, causing an explosion in the sky. Kästner manages to cut the ropes holding one of the Eyes, severing the connection and preventing the recreation of Creation. The Eye falls and is destroyed, incapacitating the order’s followers. Anahit recovers through the healing power of the remaining Eye.
