Voglia di Volare (1984)

The Italian pilot Davide and his wife, Barbara, a German tour guide, have separated. Their daughter, Andreina, stays with Davide. First, the girl wants to get rid of her father’s new flame, Valerie, a model. Andreina also finds a friend in Nicoletta, the neighbor’s daughter. Barbara begins a relationship with Steve Carrington, a NATO general. Davide’s mother doesn’t want Barbara in her house. And Davide’s father, who has dementia, doesn’t understand any of this. Andreina spends some time with Barbara and Steve, but provokes her mother’s lover. When she returns, Andreina spreads the word that her parents are getting back together. Abandoned by Valerie, Davide meets Barbara for the divorce hearing. Andreina falls in love, first with her Italian teacher, then with a boy named Stefano, and then with a rock singer, Jerry. But Jerry then gets together with a new girlfriend, and Andreina attempts suicide. Davide, who has had a brief relationship with the hitchhiker Christina, arrives in time and also takes Barbara to his home. Andreina has a fling with Dirk, a blond Englishman. Davide’s father dies. Barbara goes to the funeral: she has left Steve because he beat her. Davide and Barbara sleep together. They want to try again, but slowly.
