A woman grieving her sister begins leaving voicemails on a phone number that has been reassigned to a man who falls in love with her voice.
The story
Jill, an aspiring baker in San Francisco, struggles to cope with the death of her sister, Isabelle, a long-time cystic fibrosis patient. To process her grief, Jill begins leaving voicemails on Isabelle's old phone number. However, the number has been reassigned to Wes, a real estate agent in Austin. Unaware of the truth, Wes begins to listen to Jill's messages and finds himself falling in love with the woman behind the voice. As the two begin to develop a connection through the phone, they remain unaware of the fact that they are both living in different cities and are being deceived by the circumstances of the reassigned number.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Jill is an aspiring baker in San Francisco working under a demanding chef. She frequently spoke to her sister Isabelle, who lived in Austin. After Isabelle passes away, Jill continues to leave voicemails on her number, which has been reassigned to Wes, a real estate agent in Austin. Wes becomes obsessed with Jill's life through her messages, even as he realizes she is mourning her sister. The two eventually meet in person in San Francisco after a series of events, including a podcast taping. They bond over their shared Texas roots and Jill's cooking. However, the truth of the voicemails is only revealed at a wedding when Jill realizes Wes is receiving her calls. After a period of separation, Wes manages to get the number back for her. They eventually reconcile and start a dessert taco business together, ending the film by dancing to a song they both love.
