In a ravaged future, a stranded survivor must persuade her own guardian robot to let her back inside their home.

The story

In a near post-apocalyptic future, climate wars have left Earth polluted by toxic emissions and its infrastructure destroyed. Survivors live in isolated settlements, including Eva, whose military father placed her in a specially built home guarded by Arthur, a combat robot. Arthur is programmed to protect Eva and the perimeter, but he demands a password from everyone who arrives. After a trip to a polluted, abandoned city to gather supplies, Eva returns unable to provide the password that was changed while she was gone. Though she argues that Arthur knows her and understands her need for water, he refuses to let her enter and threatens to use his weapons.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film takes place in the near post-apocalyptic future, after climate wars in which people fought over resources. The Earth is polluted by toxic emissions, and the infrastructure of the past has been destroyed. Those who managed to survive live in separate settlements, most of them located on mountain plateaus. One of them is a girl named Eva. Her father, a military man, placed her in a specially built home under the protection of Arthur, a combat robot. Arthur is programmed to guard the perimeter of the buildings and Eva herself. One part of his programming requires him to ask for a password whenever anyone arrives at the home, including Eva. Eva periodically travels to the polluted, abandoned city to replenish her supplies of tools and spare parts needed to keep the home running. One day, when she returns from the city, Eva cannot give the new password, which was changed while she was away. She understands how absurd the situation is, but Arthur, being a machine without empathy, refuses to let her into the home despite all her arguments, threatening to use his weapons. At the same time, he agrees that he knows Eva as the owner and must protect her, yet insists that his instructions require him to hear the password. Arthur also understands that Eva needs water. Eva understands this too, and begs Arthur to let her into the house. But whenever she tries to approach, the robot threatens her with his weapons. With time running out, the girl hopes to find a supply of water at a power station that is still operating automatically, but her hopes are dashed. She tries to get into the home by trickery, but those attempts fail too. Eva realizes that she will soon die and asks Arthur to take care of the lavender seeds she planted after returning from the city. The robot accepts the word “lavender” as the password, but it is already too late—Eva dies of dehydration.
