The 59-year-old miner’s widow Maria Bürger, from Duisburg-Beeckwerth, talks about her life, and scenes from her everyday life are also shown. She came to the Ruhr region from East Prussia, married a miner there, had three children, and worked in various auxiliary jobs. Her husband and one son died young, and at different times the family experienced hardship, poverty, and hunger. Nevertheless, Maria Bürger says she is happy and would live her life over again just as it was if she had the chance.
