Two rock and heavy metal fans find their public-access television show gets professional attention from a high-powered producer.
The story
In Aurora, Illinois, rock music fans Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar host a public-access television show, Wayne's World, from Wayne's parents' basement. Their broadcast catches the attention of television producer Benjamin Kane. While cruising in their car, the Mirthmobile, Wayne spots a rare guitar in a shop window. They later visit a nightclub where Wayne falls for Cassandra Wong, the lead singer of the band Crucial Taunt. Benjamin offers to purchase the rights to their show, leading to a professional production environment that tests the duo's friendship and Wayne's relationship with Cassandra.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After Benjamin Kane buys the rights to their show, Wayne and Garth enter a professional production environment. During a promotional interview, Wayne's mockery of a sponsor leads to a rift between him and Garth. Meanwhile, Wayne's relationship with Cassandra sours due to his jealousy of Benjamin's attention toward her. The duo eventually reconciles and attempts to get Cassandra a record deal by infiltrating a satellite station to broadcast her performance. After a series of failed attempts and a final rejection from a record executive, the film concludes with a series of 'alternate' endings, including a Scooby-Doo parody and a 'mega happy ending' where Cassandra signs a contract and the characters find personal success.
