A woman's desperate search for her missing husband leads her into a harrowing journey across a zombie-infested Tasmania.
The story
After an experimental weapon is detonated off the coast of Tasmania, the city of Hobart is destroyed, and many residents become 'undead' and violent. American physiotherapist Ava Newman, searching for her missing husband Mitch, joins a military effort to process the remains of the population. Assigned to a remote area of the island, she joins forces with another volunteer, Clay. The two decide to abandon their official duties to travel across the rugged Tasmanian landscape in search of Mitch, navigating a landscape haunted by the undead and the heavy weight of personal loss.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Following a catastrophic explosion in Tasmania that creates a wave of 'undead' victims, Ava Newman joins a military operation to clear the bodies. She teams up with Clay, and they desert their post to find her husband, Mitch. Along their journey, they encounter a soldier named Riley, who exhibits disturbing behavior and keeps a collection of undead. Ava eventually escapes him and finds a grave being dug by a 'docile' undead man. The narrative reveals Ava's troubled marriage and her affair. She eventually finds Mitch at a resort, only to discover he had also been unfaithful before his death. She and Clay ultimately find a newborn baby—the first born alive and healthy since the blast—and they set Mitch's body adrift at sea.
