When Hansecker abruptly cancels the factory’s September Christmas party and asks secretary Christa to prepare a presentation for a potential investor, rumors of a sale unsettle the workforce.

The story

Christa Seeliger, chief secretary at Hamburg chocolate factory Hansecker, is preparing its annual Christmas party, which the company traditionally holds in September because it makes chocolate Santa Clauses. This year, director Harald Hansecker abruptly cancels the celebration and asks Christa to assemble a presentation for Frankfurt firm N&G, which has expressed willingness to invest in the long-established company. After their first meeting, rumors spread that Hansecker may sell the factory, though he denies it. He does not tell Christa the whole truth; because she is in love with him, she believes him. Meanwhile, employees grow uneasy and fear for their jobs.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Christa Seeliger is the chief secretary at the Hamburg chocolate factory “Hansecker” and, as she does every year, is preparing the company’s Christmas party. As a producer of chocolate Santa Clauses, the factory traditionally celebrates Christmas as early as September. But this year, company director Harald Hansecker abruptly cancels the party and tasks Christa with putting together a presentation folder for the Frankfurt firm N&G, which has announced its willingness to invest in the long-established company. Shortly after their first meeting, rumors spread that the company is to be sold, which Hansecker denies. He does not tell Christa the whole truth either, and because she is in love with her boss, she believes him without reservation. As the employees grow increasingly uneasy and fear for their jobs, Christa manages to reassure them. The accountant, Niko Laiken, has quickly seen through the fact that his boss is secretly planning to sell the factory so he can fulfill his dream of sailing around the world as a wealthy private citizen. Thanks to Christa’s efforts, the chocolate factory is ultimately able to continue operating independently, and no one except Hansecker loses their job.
