They journey by hitchhiking, bus, train, ship, and on foot, deliberately avoiding air travel. Along the way, they meet people from many cultures, and one of them usually films their travels. In late summer 2014, while in Siberia, Gwen Weisser learns that she is pregnant. The couple decide to continue their journey and plan to welcome their child in Mexico, prompting a new chapter in their long trip.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In the spring of 2013, Weisser and Allgaier set out from their hometown of Freiburg im Breisgau to travel the world. Their route took them east through Europe, Asia, and North and Central America. They traveled by hitchhiking, bus, train, and ship, or went on foot. They deliberately avoided air travel. They met people from many different cultures. Most of the time, one of the two did the filming. In late summer 2014, Gwen Weisser learned in Siberia that she was pregnant. The couple decided to continue their journey and have their child in Mexico. They crossed the Pacific from Tokyo aboard a container ship. In Mexico, the expectant parents bought a van and converted it into a mobile family home. Their son Bruno was born in May 2015. He spent his first year partly in a rented house and partly on the road in Mexico and countries in Central America. In the summer of 2016, the family returned. Weisser and Allgaier covered the final stretch from Barcelona to Freiburg (1,200 kilometers) on foot, carrying their son with them. The trip around the world lasted more than three years in total and covered almost 100,000 kilometers.
