Captain Schneider and his crew are assigned in Munich to collect a repaired aircraft in Bangkok, Thailand, and fly it back to Germany. Almost at the same time, Tamani, the only daughter of a Thai prince who is studying in Munich, is summoned back to her homeland to marry a local prince to whom she was betrothed as a child. On the flight to Thailand, Schneider’s copilot Chris falls in love with the beautiful stranger and secretly gives her a gift bearing his initials, but initially loses track of her in Bangkok. Meanwhile, steward Tobby, who unknowingly smuggled stolen jewels through customs for a trio of crooks, has to fend off their pursuit. In an opium-induced stupor, he finally throws the jewels into a river. By now, Chris has finally found the woman he loves again, but she is very reserved when he openly confesses his love for her. While stewardess Susi falls in love with a hotelier and steward Tobby cleverly matches Schneider with stewardess Angelika, Chris unexpectedly faces the moment of truth: he learns that Tamani is to marry the prince. Chris gets into the ceremony and watches the wedding. Suddenly Tamani’s gaze falls on him, and everything around the two of them seems to fade away. She discreetly shows him that she has held his gift in her hands throughout the entire wedding ritual. But their love remains unfulfilled.
